McEvoy Makes Good at WSOP Invitational
A big draw at the 2009 World Series of Poker was the Champions Invitational, featuring winners of the coveted cup from previous years.
All told, twenty previous winners got together in this made for television event. The prizes on the line included a brand new, classic 1970 Corvette Stingray, the coveted inaugural Binion Cup, and, of course, an enormous amount of pride — not to mention inherent bragging rights.
Some of the big names playing included Phil Hellmuth, the winner from 1989; Carlos Mortensen; Peater Eastgate, from 2008; Dan Harrington; and Doyle Brunson, who one in both 1976 and 1977.
But it was Tom McEvoy, the Main Event winner from 1983, who would up with the car, the cup, and a story that will easily buy him ten years worth of dinners. He took the win on the second day of the special Invitational match. Below is an interview with the winner, from PokerNews.
